I went out searching for a olive coloured, woollen fabric. A trip to Seaforth's Discount Fabric shop didn't yield anything. Everything was too green, too velour or too polyester.
I then stopped in at Cloth on my way home to pick up some fabric for this lampshade project. And I saw a fantastic set of vintage dining chairs covered in old blankets. They are all different bright colours (yellows, oranges blues). Classic check patterns from the 1970s and 1980s. They call it the Grandpa Henry Range!
Anyway it got me thinking, I was looking for fabric which was the same texture as a blanket, so why not just use blankets. After much Googling and Ebaying, I have a come across a few options.
Canadian blanket company, MacAusland's Mills has some lovely striped blankets in neutral shades, including forest green. I have also tracked down olive coloured army blankets from a military supply store on Ebay. These are super cheap, so I ordered one as a test - they are a great colour. Now just to decide whether to use a mixture of different blankets or just go with the army ones....?
